Zhang Zhaodong (1865-1938), another name was Zhang Zhankui. He was born in Hejian, Hebei province. He moved to Tianjin in 1977 to make a living. He met Li Cunyi, the famouse Xing Yi master at that time. He became Li Cunyi's sworn brother. Li Cunyi introducted him to Li's own master, Liu Qilan, one of the eight disciples of Li Luoneng, the Xing Yi founder.
In 1881, he met Cheng Tinghua in Beijing. Cheng was the Cheng style Ba Gua founder. Zhang Wanted to study from Dong Haichuan, since Dong was very old already, he studied from Cheng Tinghua although official he was Dong's student.

After 1900, he worked for local government in Tianjin, his job was to arrest criminals.

In 1911, he created Martial Art Association of Tianjin with other masters.
In 1918, he went to Beijing with Li Cunyi and some students to participate the martial art competition organized by Russian martial artists.
He combined Xing Yi and Ba Gua practice to created the new style: Xing Yi-Ba Gua palm system. He applied the powerful force from Xing Yi with fast walking practice together into the new system.

He had taught many students in Tianjin and many of them became famous Xing Yi masters.
